Ramadan
appeal.
Support AMAR's work this Ramadan: healthcare, education and training for displaced women and children in Iraq.
Zakat that
reaches the marshes.
AMAR's Ramadan Appeal helps displaced and under-served women and children in Iraq with healthcare, education and training. Ramadan food boxes are distributed through AMAR's community centres, and Zakat given through AMAR funds direct services for the poorest families.
Ramadan is the month when the poorest families feel their poverty most. Every year AMAR's Basra team buys, packs and delivers food parcels to households identified with local community leaders: widows, the elderly, families with a disabled member, and those displaced by conflict. The team is present at every handover, and every parcel is signed for.
Around two thousand parcels a year, bought locally in Basra and handed over in person.
Ramadan appeal
Inside every
parcel.
A Ramadan parcel feeds a family through the month of fasting. Everything is bought from a local supplier in Basra, packed by AMAR staff and volunteers, and handed over in person with a signed receipt, so every parcel is accounted for.

A typical parcel. Contents vary a little from year to year with local prices and supply, but this is the minimum every family receives.
Distribution runs through community centres and door to door. Recent appeals have delivered around two thousand parcels a year across the Basra region.
A gift of any size goes towards the next parcel, and Zakat given through AMAR is used in full for food and its delivery.
