HEALTHCARE: THE FOUNDATION OF DEVELOPMENT

Good public health is vital to the long-term development of any local community. Without this approach, social and economic development is restricted and human suffering continues unabated. This leads to reliance on international aid and assistance. AMAR delivers public and primary healthcare to populations in need to break this cycle and set the conditions for communities to flourish.

We work in partnership with existing state health services to improve and expand the skills and quality of existing health care provision, augmenting it where required and helping to raise standards to those set by the World Health Organization. We also provide extensive training to local healthcare professionals and managers, and provide the resources and knowledge base required to deliver lasting improvements to the quality of care available.

AS OF 2024, more than 11 MILLION MEDICAL CONSULTATIONS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED BY AMAR STAFF

PRIMARY HEALTHCARE CENTRES

We build and rehabilitate primary healthcare centres to provide access, increase the availability of services, develop medical professional skills and enhance community understanding of health and wellbeing.

RURAL HEALTH POSTS

We establish health posts in small and rural areas to ensure populations have access to medical care on a weekly basis. Each post is staffed with a doctor and 3 nurses to deliver health consultations, vaccinations, and referrals.

MOBILE HEALTH CLINICS

We organise and run regular educational and vocational training for adults and children displaced by conflict to ensure that a humanitarian crisis has as little impact on their long term future as possible.

MOTHER & CHILD HEALTH CARE

All of our health projects target pregnant women, mothers and children with check-ups, vaccinations and health education. We also ensure that women and girls have access to a female doctor for sensitive conversations.

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES

We provide women with access to reproductive help, advice and treatment, including access to a female doctor where possible, family planning advice and private consultations about puberty.

WOMEN HEALTH VOLUNTEERS

We train local women as community health workers to deliver advice, public health education and basic care to thousands of families every month – benefitting patients and providers, and empowering women.

HEALTH PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

We provide regular professional skills development opportunities for state-employed medical professionals, government officials, healthcare managers, and our own staff and volunteers.

PATIENT TRANSFER

We ensure that patients being moved to other health facilities have access to safe, emergency transfer. We also deploy our mobile health clinics as ambulances in the event of emergencies in remote locations.

MEDICAL LABORATORIES

AMAR incorporates and equips full medical laboratories within newly built or refurbished healthcare facilities to provide immediate access to medical testing and diagnostic services for AMAR patients.

PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES

We build and equip facilities and train pharmaceutical professionals to become part of the core primary healthcare centre staff, ensuring patients have sustained access to the medications they need.

MEDICAL RECORDS

We deliver quality health services by maintaining high standards for patient record keeping and data collection at each of our facilities. AMAR health data is also used to inform provincial-wide disease surveillance and control.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

In concert with local and national government, we repair water supply systems, build sewage treatment plants, train business owners on safe workplace and waste practices and promote public health education.
